Five Ways to Prevent Metabolic Syndrome




So, we arrive at the final stanza of my series on metabolic syndrome. This condition puts you at exceptionally high risk for heart disease and it is one we should all pay close attention to. This will be a short one, because I want to cut through all the studies, all the information, and ensure you take away the most important messages.

How could you prevent metabolic syndrome? You could reduce your risk of this condition by following these important steps:

1. Regular exercise. Have a brisk walk 30 minutes a day to maintain general health, and 60 minutes or more a day if you want to actively shed pounds.

2. Eat healthy foods. Eat more vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken (instead of red meat), and whole grains. Reduce dietary salt and saturated fats. Reduce sodas and fast foods.

3. Maintain normal body weight. Know what your body mass index (BMI) should be and try to shed pounds through dieting and exercise. Remember that, by losing as little as five percent to 10% of your weight, you can reduce both your blood pressure and your chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

4. Quit smoking. It is a fact that smoking cigarettes will increase insulin resistance, which will lead to many cardiovascular diseases (e.g. hypertension, heart attack). Ask your physician to help you quit smoking.

5. Periodic monitoring. Ask your physician to check your BMI, fasting blood glucose, cholesterol (HDL and LDL), triglycerides and blood pressure at least once every one to two years, especially after age 40 in men and 45 in women.

Easy Methods to Home Acne Treatment




Being a teenager is tough, but it can be even harder if your teenager has an acne problem. Although treating acne can be hard, it is important to look at the skin type of the sufferer and this stage of the acne outbreak. Teenagers commonly have acne because of high levels of hormones. Although the formation of pimples is almost impossible to prevent at this stage, some teens actually get dozens of zits at a time. Keeping their skin clean and dry can part of an inexpensive home acne treatment.

 

The most important aspect of washing the face is that it should not be done too often, or the skin will become dry. The body will think it needs to produce more oil to soften the skin and produce even more oil.  More oil means more breakouts, so make sure your skin is clean but not too dried out.  A light, non-oily moisturizer can help you balance your skin's hydration level.  Wash your face no more than twice each day, once in the morning and once before bed. Although it may be tempting to use hot water, make sure the water is lukewarm and that you're using an appropriate facial wash. Your pores will be opened by the lukewarm water to be cleaned, and then a cold splash of water will close the pores back down. Don't touch your face during the day to keep the oils from your hands from making contact. You can even find papers that absorb excess oil at your local drugstore, which may help in your home acne treatment.  There may be other items in the drugstore that will help your acne treatment as well.  Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure of the ingredients in any of these products.

 

One of the biggest causes of teenage breakouts is caused by the overproduction of oil in the pores. There are also naturally-occurring bacteria mixed in with the oil, so the body sends white blood cells to combat the intruders. This causes the redness and swelling you notice during in acne outbreak. Keeping the oil from building up on your face is critical to lessening the frequency and severity of your acne outbreaks. However, even between these incidents, you should strive to keep up your acne treatment regimen. As you grew out of your teenage years, your acne will most likely lessen, although even adults have acne breakouts on occasion. Luckily, these same steps can help alleviate adult issues, as well!

 

You may also find that natural supplements, such as certain vitamins, can help in your home acne treatment. There is nothing to be done about the hormonal changes in the teenage body, but the other methods of fighting acne can help lessen the impact of a breakout.
